The Millennium Music Foundation (MMF) is pleased to announce the performance of Polish-born soprano Iwona Handzlik and the MMF debut of 2006 Honens Laureate pianist Hong Xu on March 27, 2008 at the Rozsa Centre. An Evening of Opera with Iwona Handzlik, soprano, and Hong Xu, piano will be the final presentation in MMF's 10th anniversary season.

A graduate of the Katowice Conservatory in Poland, Iwona Handzlik had already made her debut as a fourth year student in the part of Hanna in Moniuszko's The Haunted Manor on stage of the Music Theatre in Lublin. In 2005 she trained in Luebeck on a Socrates-Erasmus grant and gave guest performances in an opera and oratorio repertoire. Her debut with the Polish National Opera in Warsaw in 2006 was as Adele in Die Fledermaus of J.Strauss. Iwona Handzlik has made many appearances both in Poland and abroad (France, Belgium, the Netherlands) working with many outstanding conductors, such as E.Michnik, J.M.Florencio, M.J.Blaszczyk, J.Maksymiuk, M.Pijarowski, and T.Szreder.

At present a soloist with the Wroclaw Opera, the artist includes in her repertoire the role of Gilda in Rigoletto, Musetta in La boheme of G.Pucinni, Adina in L'elisir d'amore of G.Donizetti, Rosina in The Barbier of Seville of G.Rossini, Hanna in The Haunted Manor of S.Moniuszko and Olimpia in The Tales of Hoffmann of J.Offenbach.

Pianist Hong Xu became a Laureate of the 2006 Honens International Piano Competition. Born in Wuhu, China, Xu studied at the Wuhan Conservatory and at age 17, left for the United States to take part in the Gina Bachauer International Young Artists Competition. Currently he is completing his Master's degree with Jerome Lowenthal at The Juilliard School. In 2007 he made his German debut with Honens on a ten-city recital tour, performed with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and the Juilliard Orchestra with Vladimir Ashkenazy. He also made his debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall last fall, and recorded his first CD at the The Banff Centre this past February. A highlight for Hong in 2008 will include the performance at the Beijing Cultural Olympiad at which he will represent The Juilliard School.

Dedication and Sponsors
Millennium Music Foundation's 2007-2008 season is dedicated to Classical Music Lovers.
Thank you, classical music lovers!

In celebration of Millennium Music's 10th anniversary and in appreciation of the ongoing support of our loyal patrons, donors and funders, the 2007-2008 season is dedicated to all classical music lovers.

Without you, the classical music lover, we would not have enjoyed 10 seasons of stirring music performed by some of today's most gifted performers. Without you, we would not have been able to develop into one of Calgary's most unique and respected chamber music prsenters. Without you, we would not be looking ahead to the next 10 years, promising to bring you even more Canadian and international talent.

We know how you feel because we, like you, simply love classical music in live performance. Nothing can compare to the anticipation of hearing a favourite piece of music played by a renowned artist or a newly discovered young talent. We hope you will always find something to keep you coming back, to enjoy that special rapport between musician and listener. That was our dream when we began 10 years ago, and it is still our dream today.

For your support, whether you are a long-term patron or a first-time concert-goer, we are very grateful.

We thank our 2007-2008 season sponsors:
